Opera and the Arts just a Little Outside the Box.
Blue Planet Opera/Theatre is a young professional company committed to bringing exciting performances of opera and arts of the highest standards possible to audiences throughout the Grater Philadelphia region, while remaining dedicated to reaching beyond our small artistic community to contribute to the world around us.
For the 2008 season we will focus on providing funds for cancer research and treatment through our partner organization; Concerts 4 Cancer.
Albert Chaney, Artistic Director Founder and Artistic Director Albert Chaney is active as a Stage Director, Scenic Designer and Teacher throughout the greater Philadelphia region. He has recently staged or designed productions of La Traviata, Amahl & the Night Visitors, The Red Mill, Mack & Mabel and Jacques Brel is Alive & Well & Living in Paris for area companies; and has served as a Stage Director on the staff of the Crittenden Opera Workshop in Washington, D.C. As an administrator, Mr. Chaney spent seven years with ConcertOPERA, Philadelphia, five as Co-General Director and two as Business Manager helping to build that successful company.
Mr. Chaney now maintains voice studios at the Mainstage Center for the Arts in New Jersey and in Lansdowne, Pennsylvania. As a singer, Mr. Chaney was trained as a lyric baritone at Temple University in Philadelphia and at the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria. He has appeared in roles ranging from the Master Ceremonies in the world premiere of What Now, Semyon? to Mozart’s Don Giovanni and Rusty Charley in Guys and Dolls.
Scott Drackley, Music Director
Is a resident of Lancaster, PA. He has directed and/or conducted numerous operas with the Lancaster Opera Company, where he served as Artistic Director, and other organizations. Some of his favorite operas are: Pirates of Penzance, A Little Night Music, Barber of Seville, Gianni Schicchi and The Magic Flute. He has also directed music theatre and plays such as: Nunsense, Cinderella, Our Town, and The Curious Savage. Mr. Drackley is also the Director of Choral Activities at Lancaster Catholic High School.
Scott attended the Lebanon Valley College where he attained for a Bachelor of the Arts degree in Piano Performance, and the Catholic University of America for a Masters of Music degree in Performance. He resides in Lancaster with his wife, soprano Phyllis Drackley. |
